Take Action: Stop the Grind

This Is Your Chance to Help End the Grind

Make a Difference for Whales and Dolphins

In the Faroe Islands, just north of Scotland, entire pods of pilot whales and dolphins are driven into the shallow bays, where they are slaughtered in brutal hunts throughout the year known as the grindadrap, or grind. This cruel practice has no place in modern Europe. Despite the EU's strong protections for cetaceans, the Faroe Islands continue these hunts while benefiting from European trade agreements and EU-funded programs, benefits built on cooperation and shared values.

Right now, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are being asked to sign a Motion for a Resolution calling on the European Commission to hold the Faroe Islands accountable by renegotiating trade agreements that are conditional on ending the grind. If enough MEPs support it, this motion will pressure the EU to take action by requiring Faroese practices to be in alignment with European values.

Your Voice Matters

When you speak up, you tell decision-makers that Europe cannot continue to reward cruelty with free trade and cooperation. By taking action, you will:

     * Demand that your MEPs sign and support the motion

     * Help build the political pressure needed to force change

     * Show that Europe's citizens will not stay silent while whales and dolphins are slaughtered by an EU trading partner
