Antarctica’s Lifeline Under Threat: Here’s How You Can Help

Monday, 10 Mar, 2025

Krill are vital to Antarctica’s ecosystem, but major brands are profiting from their destruction. Use Sea Shepherd’s new toolkit to demand retailers stop selling krill-based products and help protect our oceans. Take action now!

You’ve heard of krill, but do you know what’s really at stake if they disappear? Krill are the tiny creatures that hold together the Antarctic ecosystem. They serve as the foundation of life for whales, penguins, seals, and many other species. Not only do they sustain marine life, but krill also play a vital role in regulating the climate by absorbing carbon. Without krill, the delicate balance of the Antarctic ecosystem would collapse.

BUT massive krill supertrawlers are threatening this fragile ecosystem—and they’re doing it to feed a booming global market. It’s time to stop turning a blind eye to the destruction happening in one of the most vital ecosystems on Earth.

The Problem

For years, Sea Shepherd has been on the frontlines, exposing the destructive practices of the industrial krill fleet in Antarctica. In 2023, we helped stop an increase in krill fishing quotas, saving a vital part of the ecosystem from even greater harm. But the problem goes beyond the vessels on the water. The entire krill supply chain—from fishing companies to retailers—is profiting from the destruction of Antarctica’s fragile ecosystem.

Major grocery stores, health supplement brands, and drugstores are selling krill-based products, making them complicit in this ecological disaster. These retailers are fueling the crisis, and we need to hold them accountable.

The Action

To tackle this issue, Sea Shepherd developed a new tool to empower YOU to take direct action. With our new toolkit, you can message these retailers directly and demand they stop selling krill products plundered from Antarctica. There is no pressure like public pressure, and we need to use it to push companies to change.

We believe these companies can—and should—do better. By demanding they stop selling plundered krill products, we can cut off demand and protect the Antarctic ecosystem before it’s too late. The destruction must stop.

Act now to protect Antarctica’s future!
